Basic Swimming Pool and Spa Safety Checklist

Entrapment Prevention 2007 Virginia Graeme Baker Pool & Spa Safety
Act Three Physical Phenomena and
the Five Entrapment Hazards they create 1. Water
flow rate through covers and outlets ( hair entrapment) 2. Mechanical
concerns (limb, clothing or jewelry entrapment) 3. Suction
(body entrapment, evisceration) ____________________ # of Main
Drains (submerged suction outlets) ____________________ Are all submerged
suction outlets protected by properly secured ASME approved covers? ____________________ If single
suction outlet installation, is there a SVRS (suction vacuum release
system), vent line or other method
of vacuum release in place? ____________________ If there
are multiple suction outlets, are they spaced at least 3 ft apart? ____________________ What is
the flow rate? It should not exceed
the rating of the approved suction cover(s) |

non-climbable fence or other access barrier?

gates and doors self closing and latching?
Are all gate locks above the reach of children? |

Other Safety areas Does the gas Heater position and gas venting comply with building code
