Answers to the following questions will affect the type of pool you choose.

  • How much do you wish to spend?
  • How many years do you plan on using your pool?

In Ground Pools

Materials
Concrete, fiberglass and vinyl-liner pools are the most common in ground pools.  We will work with you on the choice of construction material that is best suited for your circumstances.

  • Concrete(Gunite) Pools: Concrete pools are poured on site. You may custom design virtually any shape or size. Several finishes such as plaster, pebble and 3M Color Quartz are available in a range of colors. Concrete pools are usually the most costly to build.

Aquatech Pools by CHI builds gunite pools in-house.  We have our own construction crews and fleet of equipment; we are not general contractors for pool construction.  Because of this, you can be assured we control the quality of all aspects of your project and go to any length to produce a product that we are proud of.

  • Fiberglass Pools: Made at the manufacturer and delivered in one piece. Typically more flexible than concrete pools and are a good choice in an earthquake prone areas. The entire pool is a one-piece fiberglass shell. An advantage is that fiberglass pools are typically installed in less time than any other type of pool. A disadvantage is that while all other types of swimming pools offer unlimited sizes and shapes, the fiberglass pool is installed "as-is," with fewer choices for size, shape, and depth

  • Vinyl-Liner Pools: Built with panel walls that are fastened together and sit on a concrete foundation. A custom made vinyl liner then covers the entire pool. The vinyl-liner is the only visible part to the pool owner, but it is not the structure and integrity of the pool.

Above Ground Pools

Materials

  •  Above ground pools are typically constructed of a steel wall (usually with Ultra Violet protection and corrosion resistance). A vinyl-liner covers the inside of this aboveground pool. Some other above ground pools are made of a thick vinyl-type bladder that is supported by PVC poles. Above ground pools are typically round or oval; some of the bladder-type pools with PVC poles are rectangle.

Advantages

  • They are the most economical pools to operate.
  • They are not permanent structures so you can take them with you if you move.
  • They can be assembled and dismantled with relative ease as a do-it-yourself project or some retailers offer delivery and installation.
  • They have several shapes and sizes so they are suitable for small yards.
  • If your back yard access is limited above ground pools are suitable. They arrive in pieces which can easily be carried to the pool site for assembly.

Disadvantages

  • While they do come in a variety of shapes and sizes you are limited to those offered by manufacturers.
  • They can be difficult to disguise in a landscape although carefully planned patios and decks can help blend them into your space.
  • Their lifespan is not as long as in-ground pools. Vinyl liners need replacing typically every five years.
